Authentication of users before granting access to restricted areas at homes or offices is very crucial for the safety and security of lives and properties within any location. The adopted door lock technology contributes significantly in achieving a secured environment. Integrating the door lock operation facility into the entire security surveillance and detection system is sine-qua-non towards an efficient and successful security model. In this paper, a door locks that implements Internet of Things (IoT) technology in an architecture that incorporates biometric fingerprint authentication and radio-frequency identification (RFID) is proposed. A mobile app delivers real-time alerts and notifications on all attempts to open the door lock. Passive infrared (PIR) sensors are used as motion sensors to log all movements around the door lock. Through IoT, data generated from surveillance cameras, PIR sensors, proximity sensors, fingerprint, and RFID are analyzed and synchronized in the control of the developed door lock. A series of simulated trial tests on the developed door lock validates its reliability, robust performance, effectiveness and efficiency.Downloads
